Steltman Chair

The Steltman Chair is an iconic piece of modern furniture design, created by renowned architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1963. Originally designed for the Steltman jewelry store in The Hague, this chair is a striking example of Rietveld’s functionalist approach, with its clean lines and asymmetrical structure. It stands out not just for its aesthetic, but also for the way it challenges conventional ideas of symmetry and balance, making it both a functional seat and a sculptural statement.

For my ENT110 final project, I started by hand-drafting the Steltman Chair at a 1:150 scale on A-size paper. Later, I assembled the design in SolidWorks to bring it to life digitally. The dimensions used are based on Gerrit Rietveld’s original design. For further details about Rietveld’s work, visit Rietveld Originals.
